Alternative Workspaces

Little Goblins - Monday, July 25, 2016

Get Creative with Impact Office!

It won’t be difficult to imagine a typical office: harsh florescent lighting, grey cubicle walls, the sounds of clicking keyboards and whirring copy machines and, not more than one or two people to be seen. Where is everyone? Well they are well hidden and tucked away in their cubicles, working hard for their company. While this scenario may work for some, others may find a need for a more creative alternative workspace to inspire their best work.

Here are some ideas on how you can furnish and create alternative workspaces in your office!

#1: Going Cubicle Free

Instead of typical, grey and secluded cubicles, try an open system of desks. “Hot desking” as it is commonly known, is an office desk design that keeps all the employees visually and physically connected, sharing desks and work spaces. This type of system will definitely encourage collaborative work. The Bridges II System is a wonderful example of how you can create a uniform office without the cubicles.

#2: Hot Desking

Hot design takes your cubicle free office plan one step further by not assigning desks to specific employees. Instead, the desks or worktops are there for who ever needs it and can be assigned to one or a team as required. Explore our desk systems or perhaps even our boardroom table selection! Who said those large tables had to be reserved for meetings only!

#3: Quiet Lounges

Now this kind of alternative space caters to your employees who would love to work from their couch. By providing quiet lounge areas, employees can choose a space that suits their creative needs in order to be their most productive and inspired. Perhaps a comfortable chair and coffee table will be just the thing for your employees who like to sit cross-legged on a sofa with their computer on their lap.

#4: Sitting or Standing

A subtle alternative workspace can be found in a desk. Try a height adjustable desk to give your staff the choice of working in either a sitting or standing position. Healthy employees is always a bonus!

#5: Indoor, Outdoor

When the weather is nice and the sun is shining, who really wants to be cooped up indoors. Motivation to work drops to a crawl as people longingly stare out the windows at the blue skies. If you have the option, provide an outdoor working space!

Essentials for the Creative Studio

Find the Essentials for Your Perfect Creative Studio and Art Space

Not every office is going to look like the traditional stereotypes of cubicles all in a row located above the world in a downtown high-rise. In fact some workspaces have not even been dubbed “office.” This month, we’re taking a look at what you need for the perfect creative studio!

#1: The Perfect Worktop

Cubicles and desk systems all have their perfect place, but perhaps not in a creative studio. Large tables are the perfect surfaces to create and collaborate with space. We also recommend a height adjustable desk to help you avoid bending over your work!

#2: A Good Chair

Everyone needs a chair that will provide support during the times sitting in front of a computer. Luckily we have a wide variety of ergonomic options that can help keep you healthy while you work.

#3: A Creative Lounge

When you need a break from the computer and your creative work, a lounge area is the perfect space to retreat to for some time to recharge your batteries and rebuild your internal idea bank. Of course comfortable seating is a must in this area but we also recommend a coffee table. This is a great way to display inspiring books and materials while giving your office space a more relaxed feeling.

#4: An Idea Board

A magnetic white board is a must when you are in a creative studio. It’s the perfect place to note down new ideas with your team or even create a mood board for new projects!

#5: Shelving and Storage

Whether you want to display past projects (or perhaps an award or two) or you need a home for your materials, we’ve got just the piece for you. We have the traditional filing cabinets for all your paper work as well as shelving units and dressers!

Whatever kind of office you wish to create, we can help you make it happen! Contact us to today to get started.

Does Your Desk Suit Your Work Style?

Little Goblins - Tuesday, April 26, 2016

Discover the best office furniture solutions for three very different styles of work.

If you work in an office, your desk is most likely where you spend the majority of your work day. For this reason, it's important to consider how your desk or workstation may be impacting your productivity. Does it enable you to focus and perform at your best?

Within your office you may have noticed that different people have different work styles, enabling each individual to be more or less productive under various circumstances. While some excel in a high energy atmosphere, others require peace and quiet in order to produce their best work. With that in mind, it's important to optimize your desk or workstation so that it is conducive to your work style.

Below are a few workspace solutions for high energy collaborators, quiet meditative thinkers, and those with combination work styles.

1. For High Energy Collaborators

For individuals that function best when they are able to bounce ideas off of colleagues and harness their collaborative energy, teaming stations with little to no partitions can be a great option.

Our Recommendation: Employees with this type of high energy and collaborative work style can thrive with desking systems such as Evolve Benching Solutions and Bridges 2, as seen below.

2. For Quiet Meditative Thinkers

If employees prefer to work through projects on their own without disruption, more isolated desks that enable solitary, quiet workspaces can be a great solution.

Our Recommendation: Desking systems that offer privacy panels, such as eO, are a good option if you are working with limited space, whereas free standing desks, such as Cube 3, work well for larger areas where desks can be spread out.

3. For Combination Work Styles

Not everyone will fit perfectly into one work style or the other. For employees that sometimes prefer to collaborate but may also need quiet time working alone, there are workstations that can accommodate both styles.

Our Recommendation: In this case, desking systems that are flexible and versatile can help employees make the most of their workspace. Visit our past blog post on versatile workstations for more details.

Versatile Workstations

Little Goblins - Sunday, February 21, 2016

The ideal solution for a collaborative and productive office environment.

Enable your employees to thrive with flexible workstations that can adapt to the work style of each employee.

Within corporate business offices, it is fairly well known that not everyone will perform their best under the same circumstances. One employee may require a lot of stimulation and collaborative energy from their coworkers, while another may need zero noise and the opportunity to work things out in a quiet space. In a time when open concept, bullpen office spaces are the norm, what is the optimal way to address the work style and needs of each of your employees in order to allow them to thrive? Our team at Impact Office has a few great solutions for you.

Teaming Stations: Simple yet effective. Our Teaming Stations provide an open concept look and feel so that employees feel comfortable working together and collaborating, but with panels that allow individuals to have a personal workspace that feels private.

Workscape: These open concept desks allow for high energy collaboration while also offering privacy with versatile partitions for each desk.

Evolve: The Evolve workstations offer private workspaces but with an open vibe and feel, making it easy to collaborate with coworkers. It is also extremely flexible, with the option of adding on and making changes later.

Huddle: Huddle tables easily configure to assist with whatever your current need may be. In search of a large table for a big group meeting? No problem. Looking for a smaller table for two or three? Huddle can be set up to make that happen. How about an individual desk for solitary work? Huddle can take care of that too. For examples, view photos of various Huddle table configurations.

If you have concerns that these workstations may not offer enough privacy for your more introverted employees, our suggestion would be to provide a separate, quiet space within the office that employees can utilize. Learn more about How to Create a Balanced Workplace
