Getting Healthy at Work

Little Goblins - Monday, January 25, 2016

It's a new year and might we suggest a resolution? Stay healthy at work.

When we say healthy, we mean more than just hearty salad lunches. Eating healthy during the work week is always a good thing, but it's only a small part of your overall work health. Most likely, the majority of time during your work week is spent, not eating, but sitting at your desk. For many of us, work consists of staring at the computer screen, slouched in our chairs and with very little activity. It's this sedentary lifestyle that can cause you more health problems than you may realize.

Luckily there are solutions. From chairs and desks to smaller accessories, we've got ergonomic solutions that will help you stay healthy and minimize your risk to repetitive strain injuries. We know that a comfortable work environment is a more productive work environment. Happier and healthier employees is not only a more productive way to operate your business, but also translates to cost savings. Pretty good right?

Here are our suggestions to achieving this happy, productive and healthy workplace:

Try our Electric Sit Stand Table or Work Station. Whatever your needs are, this desk will help you continue to work while give your back relief from sitting down for too long.

Of course, you and your team will want to sit down some of the time as well. Outfit your office with ergonomic chairs or Sit Stand chairs. We have something that will suit every taste.

Supplement your ergonomic work station with the proper keyboard trays, monitor arms for ease of screen viewing, and foot rests.

Check out this video below that shows all about the healthiest way to work and utilize your ergonomic furniture. After all, you may have all the right equipment, but without a little extra guidance, you may be missing out on the key benefits of your ergonomic furniture!

Have a healthy 2016!

Office Furniture Holiday Gift Guide

Little Goblins - Friday, December 18, 2015

Give your staff the gift of office health this holiday season!

The holiday season is a time of giving and showing appreciation for the many people in our lives. While your thoughts may immediately go towards your friends and family at this time of year, we shouldn't forget about those loyal employees and coworkers that we spend so much of our time working alongside. These are the folks that stay late with you to meet that deadline or skip lunch in order to have that report on your desk by the end of the day. It goes without saying that these people definitely deserve a little holiday generosity and cheer.

Show your appreciation for your employees this holiday season with the gift of an office furniture overhaul. Replace old, neglected office furniture that is most likely detracting from staff focus and productivity, and is definitely not good for anyone's posture. Not sure where to start? We've got you covered. Below is our holiday gift guide, suitable for any office space that is in need of some health-inspired holiday love.

From head to toe, give your employees' workstations an ergonomic makeover!

  • Head: Set monitors to the ideal height for each employee with an adjustable monitor arm, such as the HDL Single Monitor Arm, to help prevent everything from neck strain to headaches.
  • Upper Body: Adding a keyboard tray to a workstation prevents office workers from hunching over their keyboard and allows them to reap the full benefits offered by ergonomic chairs.
  • Back: An ergonomic office chair, such as the ObusForme Executive, offers lumbar support and contour seating that will align the user's back into a healthy posture and relieve any back strain.

6 Tips for Spring Cleaning and Desk Organization

The warmer weather has arrived indicating that spring is finally here! Many people choose spring as the season to clean out the cobwebs at home and do a little cleaning. Well, just like at home, it's time for some spring cleaning at the office.

Spring cleaning is a great reason to organize your desk and reevaluate your office space. Below, we've compiled some of our favourite cleaning and organizational tips for the office in order to help you step into spring with a work space that feels fresh, efficient and, above all else, clean!

6 Tips for Spring (Desk!) Cleaning:

  1. Evaluate your desk or workstation: While you can choose to tackle spring cleaning in any matter that you wish, we recommend starting big, then narrowing down to the smaller stuff. Start with your desk as a whole. Does it need an upgrade? Could you benefit from a more organized cubicle system or desk? There's no point organizing all of your drawers and papers if you plan on getting a new desk in the near future.
  2. Upgrade your desk accessories: Consider adding a filing system to your workstation, or ergonomic accessories, such as an adjustable monitor arm, a foot rest or a keyboard tray. Ergonomic accessories relieve unnecessary tension throughout your body, allowing you to work pain free, with fewer interruptions, and be more productive at your work space.
  3. Clear your desk: If you have a cluttered desk, chances are that you also have a clutter headspace when you sit down to do your work. Keep a photo or two, or hang what you can on the walls, but leave you desk as clear as possible and free for you to do your work. Put nicknacks in drawers or take them home. Other options for making space include using a monitor arm to raise your monitor off of your desk, or a keyboard tray to keep your desk clear.
  4. Recycle what you do not need: Go through any stacks of papers that you may have lying around and sort them into two piles. Those you do not need, which you can recycle, and those you do need.
  5. File what you do need: File the papers you do need in a way that makes sense to you so that you feel more organized regarding your work, and are able to efficiently find documents when you need them.
  6. For Future - Think before you print: For future documents, make a conscious decision to evaluate whether hardcopies are necessary. Sometime you will need to print a document, however, often, we print things out of habit. Having less hardcopies will keep your desk clutter-free and the environment happy!

Should you have any questions regarding any of the above tips or products, please do not hesitate to contact our team at Impact Office. Happy spring cleaning!

Make the Most of Your Office in 2014

Little Goblins - Monday, January 20, 2014

It’s a new year and what better time than to revamp your office and create a healthy, productive and Eco-conscious space?!

With just a few tweaks to your office design, you can accomplish all these things and Impact Office has got everything you need! Let’s begin with…

Healthy

A healthy employee is a happier, more productive employee. Design your office to include ergonomic seating in order to avoid repetitive strain injuries and workers on sick leave. Of course, some employees are more sensitive to sitting for eight hours of the day no matter how complex their seating is. Our electric sit-stand desks (featured in last month’s blog post) are ideal to allow your employees to work comfortably, whether they are seated or standing or whatever is in between!

Seating and desks are not the only office accessories that can keep your employees healthy though. Monitor arms are the ideal accessories to allow one to adjust the screens to the perfect alignment according to any individual’s needs. Foot rests are ideal for relieving back pressure and our foot machines can help employees maintain good circulation by encouraging movement and massaging the feet!

Productive

How can furniture make an office more productive? The secret is in the style and arrangement of designated spaces. Sleek modern desk systems such as the Evolve Benching Solutions or Bridges 2 allow for employees to work closely together and encourage collaboration, while still giving workers personal spaces to get work done without distraction. Vice Versa Bridges is another design that can help keep teams close together and maximize space in the office.

If you’re office doesn’t already have designated lounge areas, then perhaps space conscious desk systems will help make room. Lounge chairs and coffee tables are a great addition to the office, not just for customers and guests but also for your employees.

Eco-Conscious

If you want to reduce your impact on the environment, there are three R’s that every one should aim to live by: reduce, reuse and recycle! Impact Office may not able to help you implement recycling programs or digital IT projects to leave paper behind but we can offer you a selection of pre-owned furniture!

Lastly, and this is the only product we don’t have, add greenery to your office with plants! Plants can help clean the air, bring nature indoors and create a relaxed atmosphere where your employees can thrive. Make 2014 the year your office design contributes to your business magic!

Client Spotlight: 1-800-GOT-JUNK? & Lululemon

Little Goblins - Thursday, October 17, 2013

Learn more about our clients and services!

Over the years we've had the privilege of outfitting some of Vancouver's top companies with our office furniture. From companies such as Rolls-Royce Canada and Ocean Trailer to institutions such as Simon Fraser University and BC Biomedical Laboratories, we're proud of every business relationship that we've built.

In addition to the previously mentioned companies, we've also had the opportunity to be a part of providing 1-800-GOT-JUNK? and Lululemon Athletica with their office furniture. As you can imagine, outfitting these two companies was no small job!

1-800-GOT-JUNK?

After supplying, delivering and installing 250 HON Ignition Task chairs for 1-800-GOT-JUNK? in both Vancouver and Toronto, Impact Office was happy to provide hands on training for the operation of the HON chairs. The HON Ignition Task chair, also known as "The Work Chair," is one of our best selling chairs, with low, upholstered or mesh backs and ergonomic features that can be adjusted. With features such as these, it's no wonder why 1-800-GOT-JUNK? went with the Ignition Task chair for their offices! Learn more about the HON Ignition Task chair.

Lululemon Athletica

Our work for Lululemon, on the other hand, was a little more customized. When outfitting their offices, we supplied hundreds of custom mobile pedestals from Global Contract for their design staff. These pedestals came with high grade furbish cushions and casters to help the user handle long periods of sitting, while also providing easy movement; a very important feature for the design staff of a yoga apparel company. You know what they say, you have to let the inspiration flow!

To learn more about our previous installations or for more information on how Impact Office can help you create the best office space for you and your staff, contact us and we'd be happy to discuss our products and services.

Don't Bend Over Backwards for Your Health

5 easy tips on how to create a healthier office environment - right at your desk!

Many of us spend 8 hours a day, 5 days a week working in some sort of office environment. Whether that may be your home office, a cubicle in the bull pen, or your own private office, more often than not we are all sitting at a desk for the majority of those business days.

Within the last couple of years, several studies (and some terrifying infographics, such as Sitting is Killing You) have come to our attention. So, what can be done? Unfortunately, most of us do not have the pleasure of just up and quitting our jobs; meaning that other solutions to support our health must be utilized. Below, we explore tips on how you can stay healthy at the office.

5 Tips to Support Office Health:
  1. Stretch: Whether you just get up and go for a 2 minute stroll down the hall to get a glass of water, or you literally do some stretching beside your desk, it's important just to get up and move your muscles. Great stretches to keep in mind are neck, back, arm and leg stretches.

  2. Go ergonomic: Ergonomic office furniture supports

adjustable heights, tilt positions, lumbar support and more, all of which help prevent unnecessary discomfort and injury at the office. Don't believe us? Check out this infographic: 10 Reason Why You Need Office Ergonomics.

  3. Try standing: People who have opted to stand at their desk to do work, rather than sit, have seen discomfort decrease an average of 64 percent and the occurrence of injuries and illnesses decrease by more than half. It has also been noted that employees take shorter and fewer breaks when using sit to stand desks. If you're not quite ready to take the plunge, try the Sit Stand adjustable desk that can be moved up and down depending on your preference on any given day.

  4. Walk or bike: Try biking to work or, if you work close enough, walk. If your commute is too far to walk or bike, you can always try a combination of public transit and walking or biking. We're proud that many of our employees bike to work for both environmental and health reasons!

  5. Support your feet: Inactive sitting can result in health related issues such as blood clots, varicose veins and pressure on the Achilles tendon due to pooling of fluids in the lower limbs. Foot accessories can promote a gentle rocking movement which utilizes the muscles in the lower legs, increasing circulation.
